The Four Elements
Fire, earth, air and water: the four elements sort the twelve signs into temperaments. Each one shapes how a sign meets the world: what pulls it forward, how it carries feeling, and where it finds steady ground.
How the four elements work
Every zodiac sign belongs to one of four elements, and that element is the fastest way to read its basic temperament. Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) run on enthusiasm and momentum. Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) trust what they can build and touch. Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) live in ideas and connection. Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) move with feeling and instinct.
The elements also pair off by temperament: fire and air feed each other, since action needs ideas, while earth and water steady each other, since substance needs feeling. Knowing someone's element tells you less about their choices than about the material they make them from.
An element is a starting point, not a verdict. A whole chart blends several of them, and the modality and the aspects decide how that element actually shows up.
