What is the North Node
The lunar nodes are two calculated points, not planets: the places where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic, the Sun's apparent path across the sky. One crossing heads north, the other south, and they always sit exactly opposite each other in the zodiac. Astrology reads the North Node as a direction of growth, the set of qualities that feels unfamiliar at first and unusually satisfying once you practice it. You may have seen the nodes called karmic. What is the South Node?

Why don't you ask for my birth time and city?
Because the node barely moves. It drifts about 0.05° per day and takes roughly eighteen months to cross a single sign, so the hour of your birth would shift it by a couple of thousandths of a degree. Your date alone pins down the sign, and usually the degree too. Time and place matter for houses, not for this.
Why does another calculator give me a different sign?
Honest answer: there are two calculation conventions. The mean node smooths the Moon's wobble into a steady average; the true node follows the wobble exactly. The two can differ by up to about 2°, which near a sign boundary is enough to change the sign. We use the mean node, and when your node lands within 2° of a boundary we show you both candidates.
How long does the North Node stay in one sign?
About eighteen months. The nodes move backward through the zodiac and complete a full loop in roughly 18.6 years, which is why the node is partly generational: most people born within a year and a half of you share your North Node sign. Your Sun, Moon and rising are what make a chart personal; the node describes a direction your cohort works on together.
Is the North Node the same as my zodiac sign?
No. When people say 'my sign', they mean the Sun sign, where the Sun sat on your birthday. The node is a different point with a different job. Your Sun says who you are, your Moon how you feel, your rising sign how you come across, and your North Node where you're growing. Two people can share a Sun sign and be working on completely different node directions.
