What is my Chiron sign?
Chiron is a small icy body on a wobbly orbit between Saturn and Uranus. Astrology reads it as the place where an old hurt and a real skill grew from the same root.
What Chiron describes
Chiron was discovered in 1977 and named after the centaur of Greek myth who was a healer and a teacher, and who carried a wound that would not close. Astrologers took the story literally enough to build a reading around it: the sign and house of Chiron are read as an area where something went wrong early, was never quite repaired, and became a competence anyway. The useful version of that idea is not the wound but the pairing. People tend to be unusually good at the thing they had to work out for themselves. The unhelpful version is treating a chart point as a diagnosis. Chiron is not evidence that something happened to you.
Chiron is young, slow and shared
Two honest caveats. The first is age: Chiron entered astrology in 1977, so there is no long tradition behind it, and the interpretations you will find differ more between authors than they do for the classical planets. Treat what you read as one school rather than settled knowledge. The second is speed. Chiron's orbit takes just over 50 years and is very eccentric, so it can hold a single sign for years at a time. Practically, that means almost everyone born within a few years of you has your Chiron sign. That makes it a generational marker rather than a personal one, and it is the house, which needs your birth time, that makes it yours.

What is Chiron?

Do I need my birth time?
Not for the sign. Chiron moves so slowly that the hour is irrelevant for it, and this page therefore does not ask. The house is a different matter, and that does need an exact time.
What does the wounded healer idea actually mean?
It is shorthand for a pattern, not a prophecy: the area where you had to work something out without help is often the area where you end up able to help. Read as a description it can be clarifying. Read as an explanation of your life it stops being useful, and no chart point can tell you what happened to you.
Is Chiron a planet?
No. It is roughly 200 kilometres across, has shown a coma like a comet, and even appears to have rings. Astronomically it is a centaur with two catalogue numbers. Astrologically it is treated as a point worth reading, which is a separate decision from what astronomers call it.
